Overview

Extended surface that survives aggressive cleaning

Studded tube is manufactured using automated electrical resistance stud welding, producing full-penetration, metallurgically sound forge welds between each stud and the tube wall. Studs can be placed uniformly around the full circumference or restricted to one side, and stud height can be varied within the same row to tailor the heat transfer profile to the application.

Where finned tube is sensitive to mechanical damage, studded tube is specifically chosen for environments with highly corrosive, heavy-fouling gas or liquid streams that require frequent or aggressive cleaning — including hydroblasting and shot cleaning. Studs increase effective external surface area equivalent to 4 to 10 bare tubes, while disrupting the gas-side boundary layer to enhance the film heat transfer coefficient.
