Finned Tube Supply — KL Footed Fin

KL Footed Fin / Knurled L Footed Fin

L-foot fin knurled into a knurled base tube surface — combining wrap-on and embedded techniques for enhanced bonding, corrosion resistance, and vibration resistance.

Overview

Wrap-on ease, embedded-fin bonding strength

KL Footed fintube combines the manufacturing approach of wrap-on and embedded fin techniques. L-shaped fin strip is rolled into a tapered curl and helically wound onto the tube under tension — but before winding, a spinning tool knurls the base tube surface, and the foot of the fin is then knurled directly into that knurling as it winds on.

That knurl-to-knurl mechanical interlock gives KL Footed fin stronger bonding and better thermal performance than a standard wrap-on fin, while the fin foot contacts the adjacent fin when properly configured, eliminating gaps and protecting the tube from corrosion. Fins are secured at both ends to prevent unwinding in service.

  • Base tube surface knurled before fin winding
  • Fin foot knurled directly into the tube knurling for a mechanical lock
  • Combines wrap-on ease with embedded-fin bonding strength
  • Vibration-resistant, corrosion-resistant design

How It Works

How KL Footed / knurled L footed fintube is made

A knurl-to-knurl fin lock combining two finning techniques.

1

Base Tube Knurling

A spinning tool knurls the base tube surface ahead of fin winding.

2

L-Foot Strip Forming

Fin strip is formed with an L-shaped foot for winding.

3

Taper Rolling & Curl

The strip is rolled into a taper that produces the characteristic curl.

4

Knurl-to-Knurl Winding

The fin foot is knurled directly into the tube knurling as it winds on under tension.

5

End Securing & Inspection

Fin ends are secured and fin height, pitch, and bond are verified.

Manufacturing Equipment

Equipment behind every knurled L footed fin tube

Knurling and winding hardware for a mechanically interlocked fin.

01

Spinning Knurl Tool

Knurls the base tube surface ahead of fin winding.

02

L-Foot Forming Rolls

Forms the L-shaped foot on the fin strip stock.

03

Tension-Controlled Winder

Winds the fin strip helically, knurling the foot into the tube knurling.

04

Knurl Alignment Head

Keeps fin foot knurling aligned to the tube knurling during winding.

05

Dimensional Gauging Station

Verifies fin height, pitch, and knurl engagement against specification.

06

End-Securing Tool

Secures fin ends to the tube to prevent unwinding in service.
