L-foot fin knurled into a knurled base tube surface — combining wrap-on and embedded techniques for enhanced bonding, corrosion resistance, and vibration resistance.
KL Footed fintube combines the manufacturing approach of wrap-on and embedded fin techniques. L-shaped fin strip is rolled into a tapered curl and helically wound onto the tube under tension — but before winding, a spinning tool knurls the base tube surface, and the foot of the fin is then knurled directly into that knurling as it winds on.
That knurl-to-knurl mechanical interlock gives KL Footed fin stronger bonding and better thermal performance than a standard wrap-on fin, while the fin foot contacts the adjacent fin when properly configured, eliminating gaps and protecting the tube from corrosion. Fins are secured at both ends to prevent unwinding in service.
